📝 Abstract

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, limitations in physical functioning and a variety of other symptoms with unknown etiology that occurs mainly in women. Affect, self-efficacy for pain, functional limitation, symptoms (pain intensity, anxiety, depression, fatigue) and heat pain tolerance were evaluated in 136 women with FM. A cluster analysis identified two clusters according to the sensory, affective, cognitive and behavioral patterns. Despite the predominance of literature focusing on psychological disturbance in FM, our results indicate the need to attend to a positive profile that identifies key affective and cognitive resources. The differentiation of both positive and negative features challenge current conceptualizations of FM and point to new directions for interventions that focus on improving positive affective resources.
