📝 Abstract

Patients use nurse call systems to signal nurses when they need medical help. Traditionally, nurse call systems were not integrated with any other systems, and therefore the response of nurses themselves were the most important factor in this system. When a patient presses a button or pulls a cord using the nurse call system, a series of light indicators activated above the doorways and along the hallways. However, for immediate response regardless of the location of the nurses in the hospital, wireless telephones need to be integrated into the nurse call systems. This integration improves the nurse-patient communication and reduces the number of redundant visits to patient rooms. In this paper, the Nurse Call System Software (NCSS), the Wireless Phone System Software (WPSS) and a communication protocol were developed in order to integrate the wireless telephones into the existing nurse call systems.
